Once more I feel the need to plague the world with my ramblings

Once more I feel the need to plague the world with my ramblings

On Rainy Days in November

Tumbling skies of slate and steel

Bare boned trees with twig knuckled fingers

Clutching and clawing the clouds to tatters

A few rags of leaves rattling like an old man’s cough.

Everything becomes anonymous and grey

Colour like an old photograph

The few people stumbling through the streets

Cut off from each other by haste and weather curtains.

Days like these are strange

Blurred and misted like a breath fogged mirror

Reflecting dark, vague figures

Distorted carnival fun masked.

The line become tenuous

So that one might almost expect

To see a band of hobbits peeping round the hedgerows

Or dripping maidens holding bright swords aloft

Awaiting once and future kings.

Strange weather brings strange fancy

Fairies play tag with the raindrops,

Ravens croak prophecies and the lyrics to Tom Waits songs,

Cars become shiny-scaled beasts of smoke and petrol.

Days like these have ink stained fingers,

Have kept the company of Poe and Bradbury,

Hold a million tales in their misty hearts

Just waiting for the ear to hearken and the mouth to speak their names.
